Emergency services, including Fire and Rescue NSW and police were called to the blaze about 3.30pm.
Mid North Coast Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Duty Commander Tony Lenthall said the fire was in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
One southbound lane of Smith Street was closed between Forth Street and Belgrave Street.
Inspector Lenthall said the street would have been busy at the time but could not comment on if any other vehicles were impacted by the blaze.
It took about half an hour for firefighters to render the area safe.
It's believed an investigation is taking place into the cause of the blaze.
