Hays Legal have partnered with a leading government authority, based in the Melbourne CBD to recruit for a Legal Counsel position. This department has an incredibly supportive, friendly and flexible culture. In this permanent role, you will work within a skilled legal team, responsible for providing legal advice across a variety of matters within the financial sector.

Your new role
As a Legal Counsel, you will work within the legal team, to support the Head of Legal and Compliance to provide strategic and high-quality legal advice and corporate secretarial services to the organisation. You will also:

• Provide legal advice to both internal and external stakeholders on issues including statutory interpretation, privacy & data protection, contract and intellectual property
• Plan procurements and developing the required procurement documentation, including tender documentation and proposed contract terms and variables

• Provide advice and direction on procurement processes to achieve compliance with internal and government policies
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements including IT agreements and licences.
• Draft and review MOU’s with clients
• Have legal input and review existing template documents, notices and guidance material

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you will have:

• Admission to the legal profession and hold a current Victorian legal practising certificate
• Preferably 3+ years post admission experience
• Previous experience working in an in-house counsel role
• Proven experience across Procurement, FOI, privacy, Intellectual Property, drafting contracts and strong experience and exposure to admin law including statutory interpretation
• Written skills which are proven to be of the highest level
