There was however little relief to be found with the normally fresh flowing waters reduced to a trickle between algae-filled puddles.
Recent overcast days were a welcome relief but showers delivered little more than a few millimetres of the precious liquid into rain gauges.
And with the Bureau of Meterology predicting no more than possible showers along with rising temperatures in the days ahead, things look set to get even drier.
Level Three (very high) water restrictions remain firmly in place for Bellingen Shire residents.
This means the use of water outdoors is limited to handheld hoses for no more than 10 minutes every second day, before 9am or after 4pm. Garden irrigation systems cannot be used and pools cannot be filled.
