It replaces a system that was unfair and inefficient with one that maximises people’s independence and capacity to participate and contribute to their community.
The NDIS is being rolled out in stages across Australia. Mid North Coast communities will join the Scheme from 1 July 2017.
The Hon Luke Hartsuyker MP, Member for Cowper, launched the NDIS on the Mid North Coast at the Coffs Harbour NDIS Local Area Coordination (LAC) office on Thursday.
“The rollout of the NDIS is a significant undertaking because it affects thousands of people throughout the region,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“All of the NDIS Local Area Coordination offices will assist people with a disability, their families, their carers, and service providers’ transition to the scheme.”
The NDIS Partners in the Community Program supports the NDIS being implemented at a local community level. It enables the NDIS to partner with experienced and qualified organisations who have strong local knowledge and an understanding of what people with disability across our country need to deliver LAC services. LAC services focus on participant capacity building, including plan development, implementation and review.
NDIS partner Social Futures is delivering LAC in many parts of New South Wales and has engaged Mid Coast Communities to deliver LAC throughout the towns and communities in the Mid North Coast. This has resulted in 49 new jobs in the region.
