Council is also committed to a proactive approach in supporting increased social and economic opportunities to boost future growth for our Valley.
A continued investment in maintaining and improving our 1,200 kilometre road network is a key feature of the forward program, with a $4.8 million planned injection into sealed roads.
The next four years will see improvements to beach reserves and caravan parks, increases in sports facilities, and investment in economic development. Other projects include funding to begin implementing the Crescent Head Master Plan, environmental improvement programs for the Macleay River, and replacement of Turners Flat Bridge.
The planning documents lay out the many and varied projects and scope of works we aim to achieve over the next four years, to help make our valley a more prosperous and connected community.
NAIDOC Week
Congratulations to the hardworking Macleay Valley NAIDOC Week Committee for again organising a week of special activities for everyone to enjoy. I was honoured to be part of yesterday's traditional flag-raising ceremony following the community march that signalled the opening of NAIDOC Week.
This year’s theme ‘Our Languages Matter’, has real meaning in the Macleay. Our community is fortunate that many local residents have worked hard to preserve the Dunghutti culture and language, especially in creating a reference dictionary for future generations to refer to and use. This is a special testament to the rich culture that still lives today in the Dunghutti nation.
In the activities planned for this week, we can share in the Aboriginal culture and language, the arts and history that Aboriginal men and women have contributed to our valley.
