Ck Farm Fresh Wholesale Fruit and Veg is the innovative idea of John Latham from Coolong Kitchen Food Services.
Currently John has three farms growing vegetables, two in Kempsey and one in Bowraville. The idea is to be vegetable growers, packers, processors and wholesalers, all from the one location.
Growing the vegetables on the three farms before picking, peeling, processing and cooking the fresh food on site then packaging the produce ready for commercial customers such as local clubs, cafes and restaurants to purchase.
The idea is to make the preparation process shorter overall and be able to offer local fresh vegetables to suppliers.
Tomatoes, watermelon, capsicans, potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, onions, corn, peas and beans and much more. The seeds are being sown.
CK Farm Fresh currently employs seven full time employees with the hope to double that within two years as the business continues to flourish and expand.
“Creating a sustainable food model is what it is all about while keeping it local.” Mr Latham said.
“Based on organic principals, we will limit the use of chemicals and pesticides on the property to further ensure the best quality produce is delivered to the consumer. Plans are already underway for a commercial aquaponics system where we can grow organic produce and steroid free fish in an enclosed system with minimal inputs. We hope to add free range chickens and pigs to our farms to utilise some of the waste we produce.
“As we grow we will be forming partnerships with the local Tafe and various other organisations to make our facility available for their use. Producing our own fertilizer for crop production through Biodynamic Mulching, we are hoping to boost our regions productivity and eventually become a draw card for tourists.
“CK Farm Fresh Wholesale Fruit and Veg support smaller local growers where possible and like to spend their money locally to help sustain local businesses.” Mr Latham said.
