The Sensory Detective Workshop will be held on 19 October from 9:00am – 4:00pm at the Kempsey RSL and will be run by Nelle Frances.
Ms Frances has extensive experience working with children and adolescents in Primary and High Schools, and first-hand experience from parenting a child on the spectrum.
“When my son was diagnosed 16 years ago I became extremely frustrated with the lack of accurate information and support strategies available, not only for parents, but also for teachers and health professionals. So I developed a training workshop that provides a blend of educational strategies and parenting techniques, that when used collaboratively help the child develop self-management skills,” Ms Frances said.
Ms Frances has been delivering the workshop for over a decade, with a particular focus on regional and remote Australia.
“All Australians deserve to have access to up-to-date training and current research on Autism Spectrum Disorder, regardless of where they live,” she said.
Nelle's workshop focuses on sensory-triggered behaviour.
This is an interactive and fun session packed with great strategies for educators and parents, including specific techniques for dealing with challenging behaviours.
“With the increasing prevalence of individuals with Autism, and the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, it’s so important for families, schools and key community stakeholders to learn about the condition and arm themselves with strategies to successfully support and engage with individuals on the Spectrum,” Ms Frances said.
