We are heading towards the busy time of year, but it would be worthwhile taking a little time out to nominate outstanding residents and community groups in the 2018 Kempsey Shire Council Australia Day Awards.
We all know someone who makes our community a better place – perhaps by the work they do, the encouragement they bring, or their vision and commitment to our valley.
The Australia Day Awards provide the opportunity to celebrate that contribution, and a chance for us as a community to say thank you to those who give of their time, talent and efforts to enrich the lives of others.
The four award categories for 2018 are: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
The awards recognise the selfless efforts of those who give so much to make a positive difference in our community.
Nomination forms are available on council’s website: www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au or by calling into the Customer Service Centre in Tozer Street. Nominations close Friday, November 24.
So whether that special someone or community group is well known, or whether we uncover one of our quiet achievers, please take the time to show our appreciation for the way they make the Macleay Valley a place we are proud to call home.
Slim Dusty Country Music Festival
One of the Macleay Valley’s signature events is the Slim Dusty Country Music Festival.
Along with keen local supporters, our community will host visitors from far afield who flock to our valley for a fabulous week of country music and a chance to enjoy all the Macleay has to offer.
Now in its 14th year, the festival runs from October 16 to October 22, highlighted by the concert at the Kempsey Showground on the Saturday night hosted by three generations of Slim’s family.
