Nulla and Stuarts Point/Eungai earned first innings victories and will be searching for extra competition points with an outright victory.
Nulla are leading Frederickton by 10 runs with the two sides still to have their second innings.
In the other first grade contest, Rovers had a slow start to defending their premiership, scoring 146 with the bat in 39.5 overs with Ross Field scoring the majority of their runs as he finished 50 not out.
Stuarts Point/Eungai continued to apply the pressure when they were at the crease, reaching 164 runs for the loss of four wickets at the conclusion of day one.
They will resume day two with the bat in hand and looking to extend their 18-run lead.
Rovers will be out for quick wickets, to get themselves back into the match.
Meanwhile in the second grade competition, Nulla are in big trouble against Rovers.
They were bowled out for 52 runs in their first innings and Rovers went on to score 238 runs off their 50 overs and they only lost the two wickets.
Nulla will be hoping for a miracle with the bat and ball to avoid losing an outright win to their opponents in the opening round.
In the other second grade game, Frederickton were unable to field a team due to lack of numbers and their opponents, the other Nulla side, were given the victory.
