With the theme of ‘breaking down barriers, celebrating abilities’, the day brought to light the numerous talents and skills of people who are too-often defined by their disability. 

Held at the Macleay Options Inc shop on Elbow Street, West Kempsey, visitors were encouraged to come in and have a look at the work carried out by some of the Macleay Options employees, most of whom live with a disability. 

On display were textiles products designed and hand-made by the skilled Macleay Options Threads employees. From beautiful cushions and home-ware textiles to surfboard cases, saddle blankets and pet beds, all made from recycled goods and available for purchase from the Macleay Options Inc stores. Threads manufactures bags, banners, business cards, enviro-friendly textiles and more.

Also showcased were stunning wood-works. From glossy, hard-wood benches, outdoor tables and chairs to shabby-chic cupboards and desks, you’d never guess these were made from recycled materials. All the furniture is made from Australian Hardwood and is skillfully crafted to give a quality finish.

Macleay Options Inc aims to conduct these business operations to create opportunities for its employees with a disability to gain real work skills and be part of a work environment that is consistent with similar enterprises in the general business community.

The Macleay Options Woodies and Threads teams can also customise designs for buyers.

CEO of Macleay Options Inc Michael Milicevic said it is important the community works together to remove barriers for the 4.3 million Australians living with disability.
