The emerging fighter faced up in the 14-year boys 54kg division against a Manly boxer boasting the same 2 wins, 1 loss amatuer record.

Levi wasn’t confident initially but his nerves settled when he walked passed his opponent pre-fight and looked him in the eye. 

“I thought to myself he’s not winning this one, it’s my fight,” he told the Argus.

It was an energetic and aggressive opening with both boxers throwing plenty of punches before the Kempsey PCYC representative took the ascendancy.

30 seconds in Levi produced a perfect right-left combination that almost dropped his combatant to the canvas and resulted in a ‘standing 8 count’. 

The second round could have been awarded to either fighter, with the Manly challenger regaining composure and making some cunning adjustments which temporarily restored parity.

Knowing the fight would hang in the hands of the judges if it was to go the distance the South West Rocks’ brawler stepped the intensity up in the 3^rd and final round, moving forward and dominating the ring at every opportunity.

In the closing seconds the Macleay’s latest boxing revelation stamped his authority on the bout, landing nine unanswered punches, putting the judges decision beyond a doubt and earning him the Northern Beaches Boxing Title.

The young boxer was thrilled with his performance but realises he still has much to learn.

“I worked him around the ring and probably won all three rounds, although I still expect more from myself.”

Coach Adam Fathers believes Levi possesses the right attitude to go far in the sport.

“He’s only had four fights but he’s improved in each,” he said.

“He listens to instructions and implements them, and always trains at 100 per cent, now he’s starting to see rewards for his hard work.”
