The weather threatened but couldn’t spoil the fun for the hundreds of people who came to explore last week’s Twilight Markets and stayed on to enjoy the music, Christmas Carols and stunning fireworks launched from the river.

The 165 stall holders offered gourmet and home-made food, organic wellness products, treats for the kids, fresh produce, creative clothing and artistic wares for people looking to snap up some Christmas gifts.
Congratulations to the Macleay Valley Business Chamber on organising a great event, and thank you for the support from the Kempsey District Silver Band, Macleay Valley Pipes and Drums, and other local talent for entertaining everyone at Riverside Park.
It was fabulous to see so many families enjoy the festive atmosphere and really get into the true meaning and spirit of community. Catching up with old friends and seeing the delight on children’s faces as they welcomed Santa and his reindeer, really brought home just what Christmas and community is all about.
Council was pleased so many in the community visited our stall to discuss the proposed extension of the Environmental Levy.
Thank you to those who completed a survey and to the many more residents who were keen to discuss the environmental projects that benefit from the levy’s injection of funds to protect our beautiful valley.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Returning to Riverside Park for the fabulous fireworks display on New Year’s Eve would be a great way to farewell 2017 and welcome in 2018.
The Kempsey Macleay RSL Club will build on the success of last year’s fireworks display by hiring a barge to launch the fireworks from the river for this year’s event.
Council is proud to support the club’s efforts to host this special community event, so bring a picnic rug and all the family and find a great spot along the riverbank to watch the spectacular fireworks over our beautiful river this New Year’s Eve.
