The toss was won by Rovers’ skipper Danny Powick who elected to bat.

Despite opening batsman Josh Swan playing well for his 33, Rovers got off to a relatively poor start, with most of the top order failing to contribute significantly. 

The task of building a competitive total was again left to the middle order and it was Powick who came to the rescue once more.

Powick steadied the ship, making a very useful 48 runs.

Tailender J Prosper also chipped in a handy 21 down the order.

Rovers managed to reach 146 from 39 overs.

At one stage it look as though that wouldn’t be anywhere near enough runs as the United side cruised to be sitting comfortably at 2/70 before drinks.

Following drinks, Josh Swan entered the bowling attack and immediately pressured the United batsmen by bowling excellent line and length.

Swan sparked a United batting collapse and brought his team’s hopes of victory back to life.

Going into the final over of the match, United required five runs and Rovers needed one wicket to steal the win.

A Broderick steamed in and cleaned up the United number 10’s stumps to seal the result for Rovers.

J Swan 3/27 off eight overs, A Broderick 3/14 off 6.2 overs and J Prosper 2/32 off eight overs were Rovers best with the ball.

Captain Danny Powick said his team’s bowling and fielding was outstanding on Saturday but he is still looking for more runs from the top order.

“Our bowling and fielding was really good on the weekend but we still need our top order to fire,” he said.

“It’s good to get another win heading into Christmas, hopefully we can keep building momentum and beating sides above us on the table.”

Powick said the competition is becoming increasingly tight, with very little now separating the teams.

In the other match, Nulla made 9/118 to upset Macquarie who only managed 89.
