This was the first time an all Kempsey team had entered the competition and while the team was made up of members of the Mustangs Ladies League Tag team it was a completely new experience for the team. Despite a slow start and entering the match on the back of a loss, the Mustangs finished as 16-9 winners.
Last Saturday the Mustangs Ladies League Tag suffered a defeat at the Port Macquarie Sharks.
Although the side went down 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw at full-time, it was clear to the spectators who were the better side on the day.
The Lady Stangs were relentless in their defensive effort completely starving the more fancied Sharks of field position and possession. Set after set the Sharks were forced into errors by an impenetrable defensive line and determined inside pressure.
With the ball in hand the Tumblegum Lady Stangs also showed the benefits of a Macleay Crossfit pre season.
The ball movement on show was feverish, with pass after pass going to hand and the Sharks defensive line receiving a thorough examination.
With several line breaks being amassed by the Lady Stangs it felt inevitable that the home side we’re going to cross the stripe.
