The event, organised by Kempsey Shire Council in partnership with the Macleay Valley Arts Council and Macleay Entertainment, created a music trail at local shops, cafes and public places, showcasing local artists and offering free family entertainment.
Venues included the Seabreeze Beach Hotel, Heritage Cafe, Sixty Degrees Cafe, Full Circle Eatery, South West Roxy Cinema, South West Rocks Surf Club, and the Horseshoe Bay Kiosk and markets.
Council's community projects officer Olivia Parker told the Argus it was a great weekend with venues recording similar profits to the Summer holiday boom period.
"We've had great feedback all-round - from venues, punters, and musicians. The idea is to activate venues and local places for live music, and we found that the concept works. It's great business for the venues and good for the artists as well because they get to play more and get paid," she said.
Seabreeze Beach Hotel events and functions coordinator echoed Ms Parker.
"The vibe in the town was amazing, It pulled crowds and they enjoyed going from venue to venue. The staggered events meant you didn't have to be in two places at once and everyone got to see the live acts they wanted to. We also had Crafts on the Coast here at the same time and had easily 500 people across Saturday and Sunday,” she said.
As part of a strategic initiative to increase regional opportunities for live music, the Live Music Office on behalf of Create NSW and the State Government provided council funding for the event to the tune of $15,000, which was used to pay performing musicians and technicians. Venues also provided "in-kind support" and the Seabreeze Beach Hotel was a cash sponsor.
More events are being planned for later this year with artists and venues currently being lined up and locked in. Keep an eye on the Live and Local Macleay Facebook page to for announcements of future programs.
