On the first Saturday of April Members and Visitors to the Kempsey Golf Club played in the 18 hole Single Stroke event for the monthly medals in each grade. With a field of 75 players the visitors in the field were from SWR, Frederickton, Gainsborough Greens, Sandringham & McLeod Country Club and they all enjoyed there rounds on the well groomed fairways. The day was also the first round of the 2018 Club Championships which are being co-sponsored by Cetnaj, Winsome, Jabiru and Sommerville Daley and we thank them very much.

Taking the ‘A’ grade medal for April was Duane Button with a very good net score of 66, while the runner up was Ian Rudd with a net 67. Troy Blanch was the ‘B’ grade winner of the medal with a net score of 71. Ben Brose was the runner up on 73 net. Graeme Irving with a net score of 72 was the ‘C’ grade medal winner and the runner up was Junior Kai Dunbar-Rudd with a net 73 on a count back. All 3 winners of the medals will now play off for the 2017-18 Gold Medals in November. All winners of vouchers on the day can collect them from the club along with a ball if you had a net score of 75 on a count back on Saturday, just check with them at the pro shop.
With this being the first round of the 54 hole championship’s the scores were very good in all grades and all players will be out to improve on Saturday. Taking the early lead in the ‘A’ grade is the 2018 Vets champion Ian Rudd who recorded a par round of 72 to have a 4 shot lead over Duane Button on 76 and next best was Michael Graham on 77. Our defending champion from 2017 Rick Nicholson is not far away after a round of 78.
Taking a one shot lead into the 2nd round of the ‘B’ grade is Troy Blanch after having a first round score of 87 and with Ben Brose next best on 88 and then 2 players next on 91 is Zachary Pritchard and Clem Cochrane.
The early leader in the ‘C’ grade after the first round is Wayne Simmons with his score of 97 and then next best is Leo Smith with 99 and then comes Peter Herivel on 100. The leader in the 2018 Junior championship is Bradley Dyet with a score of 85.
All players will be looking to improve there games tomorrow in the 2nd round which will be a 18hole Single Stroke event and players can book in now at the club or go online to book in for your round.
A reminder to all players that after tomorrow’s round the top 4 players will be placed into a top 4 seeded draw for the final round on Saturday April 21st. Please check the hit off times if you make the top 4.
The winners of the weekly open 18 hole Single Stableford played on Thursday April 5th were Mathew Morris with 39 points as the winner and with 38 points on a count back the runner up was Wayne Simmons while the 3rd place getter was Bradley Dyet also with 38. Don’t forget this is a walk up start from 7am on the day and you just book in at the pro shop before hitting off.
The first round of the 2018 MNC Pennant was held with the Kempsey club taking on the team from Bowraville at home. The team came out on top at the end of the day with 3 wins 1 lost an 1 draw for 3&1/2 points to 1&1/2. The teams next game is on this Sunday at home against the strong Coffs Harbour team and they will tee off from 9.30am. Good luck to all players involved in this event.
