The generous gift was made possible when staff nominated the cancer service for the bank’s Centenary Grant.
Oncology/Haematology clinical nurse consultant Tricia Bourke gratefully accepted the donation at Kempsey District Hospital, thanking the Commonwealth Bank and its Kempsey employees for the generous donation.
“Our doctors and nurses at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute are humbled by the support provided to our patients through the CommBank Foundation’s Centenary of Giving program,” Ms Bourke said.
“We are very proud of the excellent cancer service provided right here in our community. It’s personal, it’s caring and it’s world class.
“The Kempsey branch’s donation will make a huge difference to our patients as it will help us to purchase equipment that improves their comfort and safety during treatment.”
Kempsey branch manager Karissa Taylor said the grants program was possible thanks to more than 13,000 current and retired bank employees who donate a portion of their income to the program.
“It’s an honour and privilege to be able to donate these funds to the Mid North Coast Cancer Centre because at some stage in our lives we have all heard of or known someone who has been affected by cancer,” Ms Taylor said.
“To know that these funds will go towards supporting cancer patients and their families within our local community to try to make their journey more comfortable is truly rewarding.
“It’s especially meaningful that we are able to celebrate 100 years of employee giving by nominating an organisation in our local community for a Centenary Grant,” Ms Taylor said.
