Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast (RDAMNC) and Kempsey Shire Council would like to hear about your experiences and expectations.
The organisations have been speaking with the Country Universities Centre regarding the possibility of establishing a centre in the Kempsey township.
The Country Universities Centre (CUC) model was established to provide on site support for university and tertiary students. The models operate in areas throughout NSW which do not have direct access to a university campus.
Kempsey Shire mayor Liz Campbell can see great benefit in having a learning facility of this calibre in the local area.
“Many people who are current students living in the Kempsey Shire travel for education. A Country University Centre would give our distance, travelling and online students the opportunity to study locally and also link with peers who are also studying,” she said
The CUC model is one component of a broader ‘Education Masterplan’ which is currently under discussion for Kempsey.
Kerry Grace, director of Regional Development for RDAMNC, is a current distance education student who has first-hand experience of the challenges that can be experienced.
“I believe the Country University Centre model would give people in the Kempsey Shire an excellent opportunity to connect, especially when travelling to a larger regional city isn’t possible,” Ms Grace said.
RDAMNC is asking current and potential students to undertake a survey to assist the identification of need for a CUC. The survey will be live online until Friday May 4 and can be accessed here.
