Members of the Kempsey community are invited to join the Palliative Care Team for the information sessions, which will be held at 10am on Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 May in the Wutu Room at Kempsey District Hospital.
The information sessions will include the opportunity for informal conversations with Palliative Care staff over morning tea.
Topics that will be discussed at the sessions include community palliative care, end of life care planning, culturally appropriate care, how to access social and legal advice, advance care planning, having difficult conversations, family centred care and care at home versus care in the hospital setting.
National Palliative Care week is supported by the Department of Health and Mid North Coast Local Health District, and aims to raise awareness and understanding about palliative care in the Australian community.
The theme for this year’s National Palliative Care Week is ‘What matters most?'. Australians are asked to share what matters most to them, talk to their loved ones and doctors and plan now to receive the end-of-life care they want later.
