The Blues have established themselves as one of the front runners for this year’s premiership and their execution was spot on to start the game and the weight of possession led to the side earning the first five penalties of the contest.
The field position and poor discipline from the Mustangs led to the Blues holding a 36-0 lead at the half-time break.
Despite trailing by a large margin, the Mustangs didn’t give up and halfback Pip Sines scored two tries in quick succession to give the side a bit of life.
However, the hope was short lived as the Blues regained their structure and piled on the points for the remainder of the encounter to register the comfortable first grade victory.
The loss for the Mustangs leaves them on the bottom of the ladder and still searching for their first victory of the season.
Malcolm Webster continues to perform at a high level at five-eighth and the rest of the players feed off his energy.
In other grades, the Tumblegum Ladies League Tag team performed valiantly in an 18-6 loss to another top side in the competition.
The ladies competed at a high level throughout the game with a high completion rate and desperate defence a feature of their game.
The Ladies have one win from their six matches this season and sit in seventh position on the ladder.
The competition leading NRMA Kempsey Under 18's won convincingly 26-0 to continue their strong start to the season.
The Mustangs were rarely tested in the one-sided contest and will head to Old Bar ready to tackle the Pirates, who sit in third place on the ladder.
In reserve grade the SOS Mobile Repairs Mustangs were the feel good story of the day.
The Blues scored the first three tries but the Mustangs fought hard to claw their way back into the game but eventually suffered a 34-28 loss in an exciting game.
This was an outstanding effort given the events of the previous few weeks with several players making their Mustangs debuts.
The side had four South West Rocks Marlins players and one Lower Macleay Magpies player bolstering team numbers.
The Mustangs didn’t field a reserve grade side against the Port City Breakers a week earlier.
The Mustangs head to Old Bar next Sunday to tackle the Pirates.
Old Bar are sitting near the middle of the table in all four of the Group Three Rugby League grades.
