The event aims to promote the Macleay as a destination for live music during the winter months and is organised by Kempsey Shire Council. Council’s Community Projects Officer, Olivia Parker, said as well as scheduling standalone events in venues, Live and Local will also promote businesses that regularly provide live music entertainment.
“Not only are we able to promote more live music in our Shire, the Live and Local music program gives us an opportunity to map the musical landscape of our region,” Ms Parker said.
“We hope that at the end of this project, we will be able to develop a comprehensive local music industry network of artists and venues.”
The program has been curated by local artist Liam Moylan and includes touring blues musician Claude Hay as the headline act.
Artists from the region include The Vault, Rory Ellis, DJ Faraway, Lauren Edwards, Pam Hata, James Leigh, Hannah Pead, Mat Brooker and Rory Ellis.
Participating venues include Kempsey Riverside Markets, Kempsey Macleay RSL Club, Seabreeze Beach Hotel, Sixty Degrees Café, Malt & Honey, Full Circle Eatery, Heritage Seaside Café and South West Rocks Surf Club with more venues being confirmed.
Macleay Live and Local was made possible through funding from the Live Music Office through Create NSW and APRA/AMCOS with support from Macleay Entertainment and the Macleay Valley Arts Council. For the full program visit Macleay Live and Local’s Facebook Page.
