Fresh off an outstanding first place in the state and third at nationals in the Young ICT Explorers competition in 2017, Kempsey Adventist School (KAS) students have been selected by the Association of Independent Schools NSW to represent the state at the 2018 Guangdong International Youth Exchange Week in China over the period of July 26 to August 1.

KAS students will be working alongside pupils from the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and many other nations in a unique week long program focused on scientific and cultural events held in Guangzhou, Foshan and Shenzhen (China) where they will experience Cantonese culture and Guangdong’s rich legacy of economic and social development.
While there will be a specific focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and artificial intelligence activities, KAS students will also have the opportunity to experience numerous aspects of Chinese culture.
The group plans on viewing the Lion Dance and Kungfu Show and interacting with the maestros in the 1000-year-old Temple of Ancestors, a Tour in the South China Ancient Kiln and porcelain making workshops, the Shenzhen Museum, a tour to the Guangdong Ersha Sports Training Base and a night cruise along the Pearl River.
The selection of KAS at this event is a huge vote of confidence in the school’s learning programs and underlines the emerging presence of KAS as a leader in educational innovation in this state.
The school prepares students for the workplaces and careers of the 21st century through industry relevant use of robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting, coding and other such technologies, KAS students are increasingly coming to the notice of key school partners such as the University of Technology Sydney and the Commonwealth Bank.
The KAS students will also be able to call on the key creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills they have learned throughout the school’s mainstream learning program and is confident they will do the Macleay Valley community proud.
