Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey said the Roads and Maritime Services will provide the services of a qualified specialist to carry out the safety checks at Macleay Pensioner Hall, corner of Clyde and Stuart streets, Kempsey from 10am to 1pm.
“It is critical baby capsules and children’s car seats are fitted correctly. An unrestrained child can sustain devastating injuries in the event of a crash, or even sudden braking if a restraint is incorrectly fitted,” Mrs Pavey said.
“The qualified restraint fitter will be looking for common issues they can fix on the day including tightening straps, checking clips and replacing loose bolts.
“Research shows two out of three child restraints are not being used properly and this puts children at risk in the event of a crash.
“Information about the national child restraint laws, the types of restraints available and advice on moving children from one restraint type to the next will be available”.
For a free child car seat safety check, parents and carers are advised to phone 02 6566 3282.
