A FMNC north/south selection will again play the Newcastle Jets in a trial game in Port Macquarie on Tuesday July 17. The two sides will have a half each against the Jets. This was the format successfully used for the 2017 match. Three Taree players, Curtis Jones, Lucas Mepham and Jackson Witts have been named in the southern squad.
Taree’s Rod Bartley will coach the southern team, selected from the Taree, Tuncurry-Forster, Wallis Lake and Camden Haven clubs.
FMNC chairman Mike Parsons believes a north/south game could be played annually without disrupting the competition. He said the proposal has been discussed at board level.
“We’d play the game mid-week, probably using the Zone Field at Taree,’’ he said.
“I think it could become a highlight of the season and a bit of bragging rights for the winning side. It would also give our players the chance to play representative football.’’
