The Mustangs now don’t have a senior team competing in the Group Three Rugby League competition, as they dropped their reserve grade side more than a month ago.
The Mustangs will still field their Ladies League Tag and Under-18.5s sides in the final two games of the regular season.
Despite finishing the year without a senior side, the Ladies League tag and Under-18.5s teams will be eligible for qualification into the finals series.
The rugby league club has had a disastrous season as they have struggled for senior player numbers.
Macleay Valley have forfeited two matches, had another two prematurely ended and haven’t recorded a win.
It’s been a stunning fall from grace for the Mustangs, who reached last year’s grand final.
Mustangs president Tim Moorehead recognises it has been a season to forget but is already looking towards the future.
“The season hasn’t gone to plan but it hasn’t been without some positives,” Moorehead told the Argus.
“We will hold an AGM at the end of the season and decide on the direction and future of the club.
“We want to start the process early so we can get a head start on next year.”
Moorehead, who is in his first year as president, has instilled a lot of positives at the club and said he would put his hand up to remain in charge for 2019.
“I will do what’s best for the club, if that’s me remaining in charge then great but if someone else takes over then that’s fine too,” Moorehead said.
“I will be involved with the club in some capacity though.”
Until then, the club will focus on their remaining hope of a finals berth with the Under-18.5s and Ladies League Tag sides vying for a spot in the top five.
The Mustangs currently hold onto fourth spot in the Under-18.5s and improve their position in the finals with a win against the last-placed Wauchope Blues this Saturday.
Meanwhile the Ladies League Tag is in fifth position and faces two of the top three sides to end the year.
They will need to win one of these games to book their place in the finals.
The Mustangs are on the road against the Blues this Saturday before they host the Old Bar Pirates in the final round on Sunday July 29.
