The school will face off with Chifley College in the quarterfinals of the NSW Combined High Schools knockout competition on Tuesday August 7 at Verge St Oval with kickoff scheduled for 10am.
The Melville side has worked hard to reach the final eight.
The Under-14s faced off with Warner’s Bay High School and earned a nail-biting 14-10 victory.
Melville’s opponents were lead by a Newcaslte Knights junior halfback and he steered the team around the park exceptionally well.
However, Melville had an answer for the repeat attacks thrown at them as they defended extremely well.
Melville’s second rower Tyler King was a standout and was voted as the player of the match.
The side are hopeful he can continue to lead the team and help them advance to the semi-finals.
The Open’s side was left heartbroken last month as they went down 16-6 against Terrigal High School, despite holding a 6-0 lead for the majority of the contest.
In a momentum shifting match, Melville benefited from more quality opportunities but they failed to land the killer blow.
It came back to haunt Melville as Terrigal lifted in the final 12-minutes to cross for three tries and overcome a six-point deficit.
It’s been 30-years since Melville High School celebrated a state rugby league victory and the side gathered recently for a reunion.
