The new structure, located on Wharf St, was completed and reopened to the public last week.
Kempsey Shire Council’s acting manager of Infrastructure Delivery, Tony Green, said there are currently four old timber wharves in the shire in need of replacement.
“Council is aiming to replace at least one timber wharf a year with safer and modern materials as part of council’s works program,” Mr Green said.
“The old wharf at Jerseyville had to be demolished as the structure had deteriorated badly and was posing a safety risk to the community.
“All of the timber components had to be replaced. We used composite fibre girders which will be far more durable in the river environment, while retaining a traditional timber deck,” Mr Green said.
