Maybe it isn’t too hard to excite NPWS ranger Penny Kendall but she was cock-a-hoop again at the end of the Crescent Head-Point Plomer Dune Care group session at Big Hill recently.

The change of location from Delicate Nobby to Big Hill is part of a strategy of follow up on areas already worked on.
Penny’s excitement stemmed from the discovery of some little known native plants once some enormous bitou bushes were cleared.
She cited zieria, croton and a rare vine among the discoveries that lay beneath the weedy tangles.
Once again Waves Campground provided the multicultural feel to the morning with participants from China, England, Denmark, Israel, the Netherlands and one from the deep south - Victoria.
Interestingly, the young Chinese traveler found it hard to comprehend the locals were volunteering.
All up 20 workers, including two new local faces and Hat Head folk, spent a lovely morning giving the area a better chance at regaining its old beauty.
Luckily our bakers make large quantities of cakes for morning tea as the youngsters really put it away after a couple of hours with their heads down.
The September work session will again see a change of location and the group will concentrate their effort at Racecourse Campground and thereabouts.
Hopefully this will be another ‘easy’ follow up on previous attempts at keeping the Racecourse beach area weed free as well as NPWS spraying a couple of months ago .
Come along on September 11, meet at Racecourse Campground at 8:30am and join us. A surf following morning tea seems to be the best tonic to the morning effort according to some of our group so bring your surf gear as well.
