The flowers you select for your big day are just as important as the gown you wear. Flowers have the ability to add vibrancy and class and should reflect each bride’s specific taste and personality.
Joy London of Affordable Flowers By Joy says peonies and grander flora (think big and fluffy) are proving popular.
“A lot of brides are also picking native bouquets,” says Joy. “And one bride recently choose peonies with lisianthus.”
One top tip Joy tells us is that if you’re looking for inspiration from sites such as Pinterest you need to consider whether your chosen bloom is available in Australia.
Your local florist will have plenty of bridal books to look through of flowers available here and also there’s nothing like seeing the actual bloom in the shop to know you’ve chosen the right one.
Before you make any big decisions, you need to determine your budget. It is important to have some flowers on your ‘must-have’ list and some on your ‘wish’ list so you can discuss with your chosen florist what you can get within your budget. You may have to be more creative if you are on a budget.
Flowers can be used to dictate the wedding’s colour scheme, enhance your wedding venue and compliment the bridal gown and the clothing of the bridal party.
You may want to go with one residing colour (white is popular this season) or mix it up with pinks, lavender, yellow or red.
You can make sure your flowers will be robust and beautiful by picking flowers that are in season.
Flowers in season in spring are tulip, hyacinth, daisy, daffodil, camellia, azalea, sweet pea, rhododendron, jasmine, flannel flower, magnolia, lilac, lily-of-the-valley, primrose, rhododendron, mimosa, jasmine, buttercup, lavender, azalea, lilac, magnolia, tulip, hyacinth, cornflower, forget-me-not, bluebell, hyacinth, delphinium, gladiolus, waterlily, English daisy.
