One of the saddest realisations of today’s movie audiences is that kids don’t go to the movies like they used to on a Friday or Saturday night.

Teenagers now have a vast array of stuff to watch at home on their phones and computers, and it takes a lot to get them out of the house.
The big exception last year though, was when they poured out of the woodwork to see It, the killer clown movie from Stephen King.
Hooray, I thought, they want to see horror movies, and when you think about, this is a genre that works best in a cinema. Which kid doesn’t like seeing a scary movie on the big screen, with everyone having a good scream. So I rushed two more horror movies for them to tie in with Halloween last year - but both were ignored.
Was It a one-off or are kids just extra picky when it comes to picking horror movies? Who knows, but since I’m a glutton for punishment, I am going to try again this weekend.
The Nun is the fifth film in The Conjuring series and reviews have been mixed, to say the least.
But given several kids begged me to bring this movie to the Rocks, I assume they don’t care what the critics think.
The horror genre is usually review-proof and this movie is already the biggest hit yet in the franchise, exceeding expectations at both the American and Australian box office.
The Nun is about some supernatural goings-on at a Romanian monastery in 1952. It is co-written by Aussie director James Wan, whose next movie is Aquaman.
I have no idea yet if the kids are interested in seeing that one - but they better come see The Nun!
And if they don’t, maybe we can blame Hollywood for demonizing females because, throughout my lifetime, I have only ever met and dealt with beautiful and caring nuns. Will equal time be given to demonic men of the cloth … too horrifying?
