The Macleay Landcare has invited National Parks and Wildlife Rangers to conduct two Nocturnal Spotlighting Tours on September 20 and November 1 to provide an opportunity for the community to learn about some of the wildlife found in the area. Numbers at these tours are limited so please RSVP to the Macleay Landcare Network on 6562 2076 to reserve your place.
The project can also provide local landholders with practical support to undertake pest predator control activities targeting wild dogs, foxes and feral cats.
Macleay Landcare has organised a Pest Predator Control Information Night on September 26 between 6-8pm to explain what support is available, and to identify landholders who are interested in working with the project.
The future of Landcare is in the hands of our children, which is why the project is engaging with local schools to increase their awareness of our local environment and our role as custodians for its future.
Recently, class K-2 from Scott’s Head Primary School were invited into Yarriabini National Park to learn from Aboriginal Rangers Mark and Jess about this special place.
The kids were treated to a mix of traditional indigenous knowledge and contemporary land management concepts delivered with fun, humour, and out-and-out enthusiasm.
The results of this experience were written all over the kids faces, who thrived in the outdoor classroom environment. This really was a special day in a very special place.
The project is a collaboration between the Macleay Landcare Network and Nambucca Valley Landcare, made possible with funding from the NSW Government’s Environmental Trust.
The project aims to improve habitats for threatened species surrounding the Yarriabini National Park by assisting landholders to undertake weed control and bush regeneration, which will be the focus of future community events.
