Cr Ashley Williams won the vote and this will be his third term in the role of deputy mayor following his election to the position in 2016.
At the meeting, Cr Williams said he is honoured to be taking on the position once again.
“I feel I bring unity to the group of councillors, I can talk to everyone and get along with everyone,” he said.
Cr Williams will serve as deputy mayor for the next twelve months until the next election.
“I look forward to serving as deputy mayor to the Kempsey Shire again,” Cr Williams said.
Mayor Liz Campbell said she is looking forward to working with Cr Williams again.
