FOR YEARS groups of people with boats who enjoy ski tubing and skiing have set up on the beautiful grassed area at the back of Woolies – to have a picnic, Christmas lunches, birthdays … just enjoying the Macleay River.

This is the only spot really to use, as it is too shallow down the other end near the park.
The other day my son wanted to ski tube with a few of his friends – being school holidays and looking like a nice day, we packed all the gear we would need, loaded up, and went and put our boat in at The Riverside Park Boat Ramp.
I drove to the grassed area like I have done for years and wow ‘chain across the driveway’. Plus, nowhere to park down that street.
Very disappointed, I rang Kempsey Shire Council and was told because of people (idiots) doing burnouts and other people (also idiots) dumping rubbish there, the council had decided to close off the area.
The sticker on the side of our boat says ‘I LOVE THE MACLEAY’. So thanks to all the morons – as normal people can't use this lovely grassed area on the banks of the Macleay.
