Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey was joined by Fire and Rescue NSW Regional North Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Gary McKinnon and South West Rocks Fire and Rescue crew for the event.

“The NSW Government is absolutely committed to providing our firefighters with the best possible facilities and equipment so they can get on with the job they do best – protecting the irreplaceable,” Ms Pavey said.

“Fire crews in South West Rocks are the front line in any emergency and we need to have a first class facility for them to utilise.”

Due to be completed in March 2019, the new retained fire station on Lindsay Noonan Drive will include a double engine bay, improved training facilities, fitness room and separate male and female amenities. 

Chief Superintendent Gary McKinnon said the station’s modern facilities would boost Fire and Rescue crews ability to protect the local community.

“Currently our crews respond to a wide variety of emergency situations and often attend rescue incidents on the Pacific Highway and vertical rescues along nearby coastlines,” Chief Supt McKinnon said.

“The new station will ensure we meet the growing needs for the local community and continue to provide the best possible service to the people of South West Rocks and surrounds.” 

In 2017 and 2018, South West Rocks Fire and Rescue responded to more than 70 fire and emergency calls and took part in a range of activities designed to educate the local community about fire safety. 

The new facility will replace the old station on Sturt Street.
