Among the keen festival goers were married couple Mary and John Brown. The grey nomads had travelled a massive 520 km from Ipswich for the Slim Dusty Festival.
Both were first-time attendees and couldn't be happier about the event.
“It's very good, and the suns out,” Mary said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the Dallas family play,” she added.
“Its good to see the sun,” her husband John agreed.
“We just love coming for the country music and meeting people and talking with people.”
The festival went for seven days, starting last Monday with an open mic session hosted by Marie Wallis and ended on the Sunday just gone.
A few of the highlights were a bush dance, an auction for some Slim Dusty memorabilia, a great Bush poets breakfast with Errol Gray, Sam Smyth and “Bushie”, and of course three generations of the Golden guitar winning Dallas family who played on the oval Saturday night.
Another first time Slim Dusty festival attendee was Chris Payne, from Ipswich as well, and while she didn’t know Mary and John, she resolved to have a chat to them at some point about their shared interests.
Despite a bit of a rainy start to the week, she was happy how the Festival was going.
“Shame about the rain, but very happy now the suns out.” Ms Payne said.
“I’m here all week, regardless.”
“I’m really looking forward to seeing Pete “Smoky” Dawson.”
By all accounts, the festival was a success this year and next year promises to be just as big when the Slim Dusty Festival celebrates its sixteenth year.
