Dragons On The Rocks, South West Rocks’ dragon boat club, raised $2000 toward helping farmers of a small drought-affected community called Baradine, near Coonabarabran in north western New South Wales.

Although most areas of NSW are affected by drought, we chose to support this one area, with a population of less than 600 people, in hopes it might make a difference.
The money, which also includes a $100 donation from South West Rocks Marine Rescue, will go to farmers in this area doing it tough, to help with feeding their stock, in particular lambs and calves.
Funds were raised through raffles, donations, and a paddle and a barbecue day. The paddle and barbecue day was open to all of the community and people were asked to donate $10, which also allowed them to have a paddle in the dragon boat and enjoy a barbecue lunch.
The day also drew attention to R U OK, which is an organisation that raises awareness about depression and suicide prevention – a timely reminder to strike up a conversation with a friend, family member of colleague who might be suffering in silence.
