More than 20mm of rain is expected to fall this afternoon and winds are predicted to become northwest to northeasterly at a rate of 15 to 25 km/h.
A large area of NSW is expecting rain and possible storms, with the Kempsey Shire expected to be one of the hardest hit.
The weather predictions are a part of a much anticipated cool change which should flush the majority of the heat from the state.
The temperature remains hot with a maximum temperature of 33 degrees expected today, according to Weatherzone.
The weather is expected to improve tomorrow as the temperature drops and the rain eases, as 1-5mm of rainfall is expected on Thursday.
