Kempsey Shire Council has installed new multi-use play equipment, two swing sets and two spring riders as part of the first stage of the park’s upgrade.
Projects Officer Civic Services, Katy Rogan, encouraged families to visit the park and check out the new boat-themed play space.
“With the warmer weather upon us, it’s a perfect time to let the kids explore and enjoy the new and improved play equipment,” she said.
Stage two of the project is expected to commence in 2019 and will include a new amenities block, featuring three unisex cubicles, connected by an open breezeway and hand basin stand. One cubicle will be fully accessible with a baby change station.
The design of the new amenities takes inspiration from the heritage of the local area and will be relocated within the park to maximise the space and allow for safer, more accessible access.
The park upgrade is being funded by a $175,000 NSW Government grant under the Stronger Country Communities Fund. The Gladstone Markets Committee has also donated $12,000 towards the upgrade with council contributing a further $225,000.
