Mr Salmond, who has lived at Sherwood for more than 30 years, claims people have been returning to his property every week for more than a year and are driving up the flood bank in 4WD vehicles, which has caused extensive damage and could lead to further dangers when a flood occurs.
“It’s an absolute disgrace what these hooligans are doing on my property,” Mr Salmond told the Argus.
“They come here every week at night time and it’s been happening for almost 18 months.
“They drive along here damaging trees and the flood bank, and I am worried it will all wash away if there’s a flood and do damage to all the trees and on my property.
“It doesn’t take Einstein to look at the damage and realise what could potentially happen if there was a flood.”
Mr Salmond’s property extends down to the Macleay River, adjacent to the Sherwood Bridge and he has welcomed people driving and walking along the riverbank in the past, but the 76-year-old has taken steps over the past 12 months to prevent trespassers because of the damage sustained to the property.
Mr Salmond praises the efforts from Kempsey Shire Council and the police to put a stop to the damage on his property.
“The council and police have been very helpful everytime I have been in contact with them,” Mr Salmond said.
“The council placed large rocks to stop people driving along the track next to the river but they managed to move a rock with their vehicles to then get past.”
Mr Salmond is hopeful the people will get the message and stop returning to his property to cause damage.
