Tom Paix, Cooper Petterson, Jonte Ross and Jack Wakely were picked for the Kookaburra Cup Under-14s team while Mitchell Korn, Harry Nemme, Jye Woodger, Lachlan Dowling and Lachlan Munday will line up at the Bradman Cup in the Under-16s team.
The players will face off with the best players from across the state in their respective age groups.
Macleay Valley Cricket Association president Ben Paix credits the success of the local cricketers to the hard work from everyone involved.
“I think the amount of players from the Macleay picked into rep sides is a correlation with the dedication shown from the coaches to teach, the players to learn and their parents’ sacrifices to give their child plenty of opportunities to play cricket,” Paix said.
“I also think it has a lot to do with the player’s mindsets, they are all very confident players.”
Paix believes the junior players will be up for the challenge of competing at the statewide competition.
“I think it will be a great test for all of them and I believe they have the skills and talent to compete at that level,” Paix said.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to test themselves and potentially earn higher representative selection.”
The North Coast region includes players from Forster to Tweed Heads. The Kookaburra and Bradman Cups will be played from January 7 to 10 next year.
Fellow Macleay cricketers Matthew Powick and Beau Mainey have also been selected into the Under-13's State Challenge combined team of North Coastal and Central Northern player.
Locals Jackson and Mitchell Korn, Jarrod Prosper and former Macleay Valley Cricket Association player Ben Pierce were selected into the North Coast Under-18s Colts team to compete at the Country Championships in Narrabri later this month.
Junior cricket classes are currently being held for five to eight-year-olds at Verge St Oval on Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 5pm. The fun based activities are designed to give the young children a taste of cricket.
