Students were involved in four different workshops run by the SES, Paramedics, Police, NSW Services and life coaches.
This was the twelfth year the course has been run for local year 10 students although it was the first one held at Kempsey PCYC.
PCYC Manager Leonie Kennedy said she was thrilled to hold the event at the club because of their close relationship with Rotary.
“We have a strong link with Rotary and here at the club we’re all about keeping the youth in our community safe. Keeping them safe while driving is one of the ways we can do that,” she said.
Tania Powick from the Rotary Club of Kempsey said the day was very beneficial for the 100 students who attended.
“It’s all about learning safe driving on the road. Half of these students already have their L’s and road safety is something young people need to follow,” she said.
“They were all very engaged in the different activities and presentations which is really great.”
“This is also a day about community members coming together and volunteering their time.”
The students also watched a demonstration my local members of the SES using the Jaws of Life as they would at a real car accident.
“This is the first year we’ve held the day at PCYC and it’s been great. They’ve been really supportive of the day,” Ms Powick said.
