The themed program aims to instil a love of reading and develop ongoing multi-literacy skills in children during the holiday period.
The Summer Reading Club will launch at Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point from Wednesday, 12 December 2018 and is open to children from pre-school to high school age who are current library members.
This year’s theme is ‘Curious Creatures’ and there will be regular prize draws, including a major draw for two Samsung Galaxy tablets.
Team Leader of Library Services, Angie Meers, said Kempsey Shire libraries run the program each year to encourage young people to continue their passion for reading during the holidays.
“It gives children something fun to do over the summer holidays while helping them return to school in the New Year feeling more confident about reading,” she said.
For a limited time, children will be able to personalise their free library bag with special paints. This will be available at Kempsey Library on December 12, 13 and 14 from 4-5pm and at South West Rocks and Stuarts Point libraries from December 12.
Come to the library after school or on any of these days and decorate your own bag. No need to book, just turn up!
The Summer Reading Club will run until Thursday, January 24 2019 and conclude with the end of program party.
The club is supported by FOLK (Friends of the Library Kempsey) who promote literacy programs in the Kempsey Shire.
