While Kempsey-Crescent Head’s lead was narrowed in the overall championship as Woolgoolga claimed wins by three and eight points in round four and five respectively, Kempsey-Crescent Head celebrated as they now lead in four divisions.
Woolgoolga now trails Kempsey-Crescent Head by 31 points in the overall championship.
Kempsey-Crescent Head moved into first place in the Open Women’s division after claiming two victories while two second place finishes in the tight Open Men’s division was enough to see the club move into top spot.
The Masters 160s continued their undefeated start to the season as they won both rounds while the Whale Cup division also grabbed two firsts.
The reserve men finished in second place on both days and are in second position in the overall standings, four points behind Woolgoolga.
Meanwhile the Masters 200s relinquished first place after earning a second and third as Macksville-Scotts Head leapfrogged them on the standings.
Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat captain Scott Edwards was impressed with the performances.
“It was a great carnival, there was 65 crews competing and really good conditions on both days,” Edwards said.
“We are really happy with the results and we are in a position we expected to be in at this time of the year.
“The 160s are the standout crew, they haven’t lost a race yet.”
Edwards also said Gavin Burke, who is in his second year of sweeping, is beginning to show great improvement at the back of the boat.
“He caught some great waves and rode them well,” Edwards said.
The surf boat captain also mentioned the Open Women’s have started to gel together.
“They have a crew of about six women who rotate when they are available,” Edwards said.
“They are starting to gel together and they showed with their results on the weekend.”
The Scotts Head carnival was the last for the year with the crews to hit the water for their next carnival in mid January at Old Bar.
