Former Queensland union heavyweight David Hanna told staff to help him get rid of reams of documents and then asked them to cover up that he'd dumped them, a court has been told.

The then-president of the CFMEU's state branch is accused of deliberately discarding the papers in 2014 after learning the Trade Union Royal Commission would hone its focus on his union.
He is on trial in the Brisbane District Court for destroying, concealing or mutilating documents in April 2014 that might have been needed as evidence during the probe.
Former official Robert Charles Cameron has told the jury he was instructed by Hanna to load 50 boxes of documents into a horse trailer at the union's Bowen Hills office and cover up CCTV cameras while doing so.
The documents were then taken to Hanna's home, south of Brisbane, where he tried to have them burnt in a fire pit before calling in a truck to take them to a tip.
He asked the union's then-finance officer, Cheri Michelle Shaw, for money to cover the costs of the job but asked her not to keep the receipt.
Hanna's lawyer, Mark McCarthy, argues Ms Shaw was never told to get rid of that record.
It is unclear what was in the files.
