Organiser Holly Gaddes told the Argus the number of participants has continued to grow and recently holidaymakers have been joining in.
“It’s been a great movement and the numbers have slowly been growing,” Ms Gaddes said.
“We were getting around 40 people a week but we had 93 on the weekend with people who are in the region on holidays also participating.”
While the parkrun is great for the health of the participants, Ms Gaddes claims the social environment created is just as fulfilling.
“The best things about parkrun is that it’s for everyone. You can walk or run and you can take your dog too,” Ms Gaddes said.
“It’s also a very social event with opportunities to have coffee and breakfast afterwards.
“It’s very encouraging for all levels of fitness, all ages and it’s great to see people improve and feel great.”
Ms Gaddes believes the parkrun has helped grow community spirit.
“It brings the community together with a diverse range of people from celebrities, kids, mums and dads with prams and dog walkers,” she said.
“It’s a great way for people to be active and social. It’s a great incentive to be active and lots of people challenge themselves to run every parkrun in the state, country and even overseas.
“We are helping to build community spirit.”
Ms Gaddes expressed her gratitude towards all of the volunteers who help make the event possible.
“We have a great group of volunteers and finding people to help out has been no problem,” Ms Gaddes said.
The parkrun at South West Rocks is held every Saturday at 7am.
It’s a 5km run which commences at Horseshoe Bay Reserve.
Everyone is welcome at parkrun and we hope to see more people join in each week.
