Five Macleay Netball Association representatives have earned selection into the Australian Budgies team after starring for the NSW Echidnas at the Australian Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Tournament in Melbourne last week.

Jade Oliver, Lily-Rose Quinlan, Tayla Iverach-Bradshaw, Mikeya Welsh-Tight and Mattarley Kelly-Scholes played at a high level and impressed the selectors.
Jade and Lily-Rose helped lead the Under-12 NSW side to third place, Tayla and Mikeyah shone for the Under-14s as they finished in third spot while Mattarley stood out for the Under-18s team which finished in fifth position.
Jade and Lily-Rose play in the defensive positions while Tayla, Mikeyah and Mattarley are attacking players.
NSW Echidnas committee member Norma Kelly was impressed with the performances of the girls.
“All of the girls played great throughout the whole week,” Kelly told the Argus.
“They battled hard, did their jobs and played at a high level.”
Kelly said the girls should be proud of their accomplishment of earning selection in the Budgies team.
“It’s a great achievement to be selected into the NSW side and to earn further selection into the Budgies team is amazing, especially when you consider they were up against so many people,” Kelly said.
“The girls would have learned a lot from the tournament and they will continue to develop when they receive higher coaching and play for the Budgies team.”
The five girls will represent Australia at two international carnivals later this year. The first will be in April while the latter will be held in July.
The Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Tournament was designed to create a pathway to a professional career.
