15-year-old tweaker Nic Hughes went through a second grade Macleay Valley limited over cricket match at the weekend like corn through a goose – snagging seven wickets for just 18 runs.
The mesmerising 5.3 over spell included a hat-trick to boot – so the youngster has been on cloud nine all week.
The victims included one bowled, one lbw and five caught – and it came against club mates Nulla C&G Electrics on the synthetic pitch at Athletics.
“It was moving a bit and I was pretty happy with it,” Nic told the Argus.
“We were only five down as we chased their runs though they posted only a small total.
“It was a bit of a laugh … but it’s good to play them (Nulla clubmates) as they just enjoy being out there and having a bit of fun.”

For the record, Nulla C&G were all done for 84 as the Billy Goats reached 5/86 in the 35-over match.
The card:
Nic – an offspin bowler like Lyon – said he had been playing cricket since Under 12s, and the weekend’s seven wicket bag was easily his best return.
But he played a straight bat to any suggestion of an immediate call-up to first grade. “Nah, I’ll be playing second grade for sure,” he quipped from his lunch break at K&J Meats where he works.
