A large field of 562 athletes entered this year’s weekend of triathlons at Trial Bay, South West Rocks.

The two days of racing included the 28th annual Nestle Mini Triathlon, which is a five-race series for under-5 to 15-year-olds, which saw 259 competitors, while the 30th annual Coastline Credit Union Trial Bay Triathlon was contested by 303 participants.
The weekend is a community run event of volunteers with proceeds going back to those who help run the event.
The triathlon consists of a 500 metre swim in the bay followed by a single looped cycle course of 23km along Arakoon and Lighthouse Roads and Phillip Drive followed by a 6km run over a varied course comprising of road, cross country, bush and beach tracks.
The first male finisher was Lindsay Wall from Yamba, who finished in a remarkable time of 1:06:09, followed by Brock Taylor from Cardiff South in a time of 1:07:19 and Michael Ylinen from Coffs Harbour rounded out the top three with a time of 1:13:31.
The ladies race was won by Paivi Hanninen from Byron Bay in 1:23:02, followed by Alison Brown from Yamba in 1:24:17 with Jess McDonald from Calala in third place with a time of 1:24:47.
The first Macleay Valley resident to finish was Michael Kemp from Wittitrin in 1:18:23 and the first local lady was Kylie Robinson from South West Rock in 1:34:04.
The first team to finish was “Team Tri Hards” in a time of 1:15:19.
Only two triathletes have completed in all 30 races, David Sewell from Taree and Steele Beveridge from Emerald Beach with Chris Jenkins from Port Macquarie completing 29.
Barry McDonald from Port Macquarie was recognised as a previous 25th finisher legend.
The top two female legends were Emily Pope completing 27 races and Trudi Needs for completing her 25th .
Competitors who have completed 10 or more finishers were recognised as multi-finisher legends, with 46 athletes receiving this award.
The best represented club was again Port Macquarie Tri Club, ahead of Hat Head Tri Club, followed by Coffs Harbour then the Clarence Valley Tri Club.
The Nestle Tri Series changed the format this year starting at 10am, with the older age group and longer cycle distance races first, to avoid the heat and minimise traffic disruption allowing roads to open earlier, with the last 2 races, biathlons, conducted on the beach.

Female 7-year-old Sienna Rooney first followed by Mabel Strong.
Male 8-year-old Jahmal Moncada first followed by Finnigan Eliott.
Female 8-year-old Sienna Ward first followed by Pippa Thorman.
Male 9-year-old Trent Alley1 first followed by Cooper Coxon.
Female 9-year-old Amiah De Wright first followed by Hazel Delaney.
Male 10-year-old Angus Ogilvie first followed by Ricardo Moncada.
Female 10-year-old Natalie Van Driest first followed by Liliana Marle.
