The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, said Roads and Maritime Services is partnering with Kempsey Shire Council to carry out a feasibility assessment which includes preparing a strategic business case for the project.
“As part of the review, the community will see traffic counters and cameras installed at various locations in and around Kempsey,” Mrs Pavey said.
“The traffic information gathered will be used to better understand current and future traffic needs and assist with confirming an option for the proposed new bridge.
”The NSW Government budgeted $1 million in June 2018 to fund the planning aspects of a second bridge across the Macleay River; its great news for the community to see these traffic studies start.”
Kempsey Shire Council mayor, Liz Campbell, said for more than 19 years council has been looking at a possible second crossing of the Macleay River, located near the railway line.
“Kempsey Shire Council is working with Roads and Maritime to determine the community benefits and estimate the costs of moving forward with this project,” Mayor Campbell said.
“The traffic surveys will be carried out on Wednesday 13 and Thursday February 14 as part of initial investigations, which are expected to take several months to complete.”
Community feedback will form an important part in preparing the business case, together with traffic, environment and heritage studies.
The community will be kept informed as investigations progress.
