When deciphering the outcome of last week's Kempsey Veterans Golf Club 2-Ball Better Ball and Individual Stableford event there is one very odd - though immensely interesting - delusion.

The result card did show that our former champion Graheme Martin amassed 33 points with a par round, whilst his playing partner, Robert Johnston, supposedly was responsible for those three extra that gave them the day's takings (so to speak).
However, you can bet your bottom dollar when chatting with Johnno and delving into matters a very different story would emerge.
Anyway 'tis good to see Graheme (correct spelling) back to his very best and a real battle royal is developing for next month's 2019 Club Championship.
Reigning champion, Ian Rudd, had an "off day" (his words), though he and partner, B-grade individual winner, Bruce Morris with 31 points, did figure in the ball competition. Deceptive, oh yes, they did score 33 points all up.
Graheme and Johnno had to survive a countback, as Steve Bates and Les Booth also signed off for 36 points and they naturally led the list of new Bridgestone ball recipients.
Next were Wayne Hutley and Terry Smith just a point back, with the Peter Hatton-Milton Riggs combo on 34 and Mark Townsend and Greg Mayhew also 33-pointers.
In C-grade, individually wise, it was no surprise to see Steve Cameron on top once again with 30 points.
Nearest the pin at the third hole saw Chris Hudson best of the A-grade brigade, whilst Mayhew and Cameron took the minor grade honours. A-grader Smith (Terry) was solo at the eighth.
Chip-ins were performed by Bill Paterson and Cameron.
Captain Robert (Dykes) was quick onto the dais when acting emcee, Johnno, surprisingly suggested that he had very little to advise of. Strange...but true!
Robert did state that a dozen members were at Crescent Head representing in the Bill Medley Memorial Shield round and that was the main reason for the small field of 27 starters.
He also was spot-on when suggesting that it was too hot a day for others.
After feeling the blast of heat coming from the gusty north-west wind when atop the 18th hole ridge around noon was almost unbearable. How sorry one feels for those gallant bushfire fighters, eh!
